Privacy Policy

1. Who this applies to

This policy covers two separate things that share a name:

• The browser extension — the WhatsApp Web Designer extension installable from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons.
• This website — wa-web-designer.netlify.app, which is the landing page and documentation.

They have different data practices, described separately below.

2. The extension

The extension collects no data whatsoever.

• It does not transmit anything to any server — not to me, not to third parties.
• Your WhatsApp messages, contacts, and activity are never read or recorded.
• All settings (your chosen theme, font, background) are stored locally in your browser using chrome.storage.local / browser.storage.local. They never leave your device.
• The extension has no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reporting.
• It requires no account and no login.

You can verify this yourself. The extension is not open-source at this time, but its declared permissions in the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons listing are the authoritative record of what it is allowed to access.

3. The website

This website uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymous usage data. GA4 is active on this site so I can understand which pages are visited, how users navigate, and roughly where traffic comes from. This helps me improve the site.

What GA4 collects

• Pages visited and time spent on each
• Referring website or search query that brought you here
• Approximate location (country / city level — derived from IP, not stored as IP)
• Browser type, OS, and screen size
• Whether you are a new or returning visitor

What GA4 does not collect

• Your name, email address, or any identifier
• Your precise location or IP address (Google anonymises IPs before storage)
• Any data from inside the WhatsApp Web extension

Legal basis (GDPR)

If you are in the EU/EEA, the legal basis for this processing is legitimate interest (understanding how a free, public website is used so it can be improved). No personal data is processed for marketing or profiling purposes.

Google's own privacy policy governs how Google stores and processes analytics data: policies.google.com/privacy.

Opting out

You can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or use any browser with tracking protection enabled (Firefox, Brave, etc.). The site works fully without analytics running.

4. Cookies

The website sets the following cookies:

No other cookies are set.

5. Third-party services

• Netlify — hosts this website. Netlify may log request metadata (IP, timestamp) for security and infrastructure purposes, per their privacy policy.
• Google Fonts — fonts are loaded from Google's servers. Google may log the request. See Google's policy.
• Chrome Web Store / Firefox Add-ons — governed by their respective platform policies.

I do not share any data with advertisers or data brokers.

6. Intellectual property

The extension, including all themes, assets, and code, is proprietary software. It is not open-source. Copying, redistributing, or reverse-engineering any part of it without explicit written permission is prohibited. Infringers will be subject to DMCA takedown requests and applicable legal action.

7. Children

This extension and website are not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect any information from children.

8. Your rights

Because the extension stores everything locally and the website only collects anonymous analytics, there is no personal data on file to request, correct, or delete. If you believe otherwise, contact me and I will respond within 30 days.

EU/EEA residents may also lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the effective date at the top will be updated. Significant changes will also be noted in the extension's update changelog.
